Mariemont unveils
(some of) the Mysteries of Mithras

The exhibition The Mystery of Mithras opens at the Mariemont Museum in Belgium, home of Franz Cumont, the father of studies on the solar god.

I would also heartily recommend the exhibition catalog - it's a fantastic work, combining essays from archaeologists, historians, curators, et al, about each piece in this show. Fantastic photographs, too.

Indeed, Stephen. The catalogue is highly recommendable for all audiences, academic, professional and the simply curious. By the way, some of its articles can be found on this very site thanks to the generous support of the publisher, the Musée Royal Mariemont.

I’d be grateful for some advice as I’m hoping to visit the exhibition in Frankfurt. Has anyone else on this site been there? I’ve looked on the museum’s website but cannot establish if I need to get tickets in advance. It’s a long journey from the UK if I discover I needed to book beforehand! Many thanks for any help. I agree with the comments about the catalogue. It’s outstanding! Ordered two copies from the Mariemont museum and they arrived quickly. Sukey

I think there is no need of booking in advance. Just come to Frankfurt an feel happy Wolfgang Janecke

Thank you Wolf. In the end I emailed the museum and they confirmed that no advance booking was needed. Really looking forward to seeing the exhibition.
