Fruit offering from Linz

Carbonised plant remains (4,210 g) from the third room of the Mithraeum at Linz, ancient Lentia, comprising vine, prunes, hedge- and cornelberries, apple pips, walnuts, and millet; interpreted as a ritual food offering to the god.

TNMM 2294 ↔ CIMRM 1421

In the third room of the Mithraeum remnants of various fruit were found which by the excavators are interpreted as a dedication to the god. The weight is 4210 grs. Vines (vitis vinifera); circles of prunes of several varieties; hedge- and cornelberries; applepips; walnuts; millet (H. L. Werneck in Naturkundl. Jahrb. d. Stadt Linz 1955; 9ff; Karnitsch, 252 No. 252).
