White marble statue (H. 0.29), bought by Gerhard in Rome. Before World-War II in the Altes Museum at Berlin. Creuzer, Deutsche Schrijten, II (2), 292 n. 1; Boetticher, Nachtrag zu Verz. der Bildw., No. 891; Maionica, Felsengeburt, 40 No. VII; Verz. Ant. SkulPt., No. 227; MMM II 227 No. 62 and fig. 58. The naked Mithras, being born from the rock with upraised arms. He is visible as far as his hips and he wears a Phrygian cap on his curly hair. The two arms have been restored in a few places. Originally he may have carried a torch and dagger.
