The New Mithraeum
A historical study of phallic and generative cults by Jacques-Antoine Dulaure, ranging from Egypt, Phoenicia, Greece and Rome to India and later European traditions. Dulaure examines Priapus, Venus, Bacchus and other divinities and rituals associated with fertility, sexuality and the generative forces of nature.
Originally published in 1805, the work became one of the early modern comparative studies of phallic religion. This edition appeared in Paris in 1953 with Arcanes as part of the « La Mandragore » collection.
