The Gate of the God HaldiThe Stellar and Numerical Structure of the Ancient Pantheon

Arthur Armin (Babayan) · Edited by Armen Davtyan & Hrachik Hakobjanyan

Continuing the 2008 book Mher’s Door: The Ancient Numerical System as the Structure of the Universe, this study examines the pantheon of the Kingdom of Van through the “Mher’s Door” inscription, uncovering the mathematical, geometric, and astronomical patterns behind its deities, their constellations, and their prescribed sacrifices. It also explores the origins of Mithraism and pre-precessional knowledge, the link between the Urartian pantheon and MUL.APIN, the Urartian “draconic calendar” (Octon, Saros), and reads the epic Sasna Tsrer in the light of the Urartian pantheon and Mithraism.
The New Mithraeum

This work serves as a continuation of the book “Mher’s Door: The Ancient Numerical System as the Structure of the Universe” (2008), incorporating new additions and fresh discoveries.

The study is dedicated to the pantheon of the Kingdom of Van - specifically through an examination of the “Mher’s Door” inscription - and focuses on uncovering the mathematical, geometric, and astronomical patterns underlying the structure of the pantheon, the constellations associated with the deities, and the specific quantities of sacrificial offerings prescribed for them.

The book also explores the origins of Mithraism and pre-precessional knowledge, examining how ancient observations of the sky may have shaped early religious thought. It traces the connection between the Urartian pantheon and MUL.APIN, the Mesopotamian astronomical compendium, showing how the Urartian system drew on a shared celestial tradition while giving it a form of its own. A further section reconstructs the Urartian “draconic calendar,” built on the Octon and Saros eclipse cycles, which points to a sophisticated understanding of lunar motion embedded in the religious structure of the kingdom.

The final part of the book analyzes the epic Sasna Tsrer (Daredevils of Sassoun) in the context of the Urartian pantheon and Mithraism, reading its characters and narrative as echoes of an ancient astral system preserved in oral tradition.
