Mithras in Chersonnesus Taurica

Ancient region of the Crimean Peninsula associated with the Greek colonies and Roman presence in Taurica.

Chersonesos Taurica was the ancient name used for the Crimean Peninsula and surrounding Black Sea territories inhabited by Greek colonies, indigenous Taurian populations, and later communities under Roman influence. The region included important urban centres such as Chersonesos, Pantikapaion, and other settlements connected to the Bosporan Kingdom. From the Roman Imperial period onward, Taurica occupied a strategic position between the Mediterranean world, the Pontic steppe, and the northern Black Sea trade routes, becoming an area of military, commercial, and religious interaction.
