The New Mithraeum Database

Ce 4e fascicule de Mithriaca concerne un très curieux monument exhumé au XVIe siècle sur le site d'un Mithraeum qu'on localise tout près de l'église S. Maria in Domnica, non loin de S. Stefano Rotondo où un autre spelaeum fut mis au jour en 1973.

This marble relief depicting Mithras killing the bull, found at Porto d’Anzio in 1699 and now lost, is known from a engraving by del Torre.

In this relief of Mithras as bull slayer, recorded in 1562 in the collection of A. Magarozzi, Cautes and Cautopates have been replaced by trees still bearing the torches.

This intaglio portrays Mithra slaying the bull on one side, and a lion with a bee, around seven stars, and inscription, on the other.

Workman digging in a field near Dormagen found a vault. Against one of the walls were found two monuments related to Mithras.

This second tauroctony, found in the Mithraeum of Dormagen, was consecrated by a man of Thracian origin.
