The New Mithraeum
A. S. Geden (1857-1936) compiles and translates significant ancient texts to elucidate the Mithraic cult, drawing extensively from Franz Cumont's Textes et Monuments. The texts are arranged chronologically and offer insights into the rituals, beliefs and organisational structure of Mithraism. Geden's introduction and notes provide critical context, comparing Mithraism with contemporary religious practices, particularly early Christianity.
