Felicissimus is known only from a brief dedicatory inscription embedded within the mosaic pavement of the Mithraeum of Felicissimus at Ostia. The inscription records that he made the decoration in fulfilment of a vow (ex voto fecit). Although his social status and role within the community remain unknown, he was presumably responsible for commissioning or financing the sanctuary’s remarkable mosaic programme, which depicts the seven Mithraic grades together with their associated symbols and planetary correspondences. His dedication is linked to one of the most important monuments for the study of Mithraic initiation and ritual hierarchy.
