Biography
of Publius Aelius Nepos

TNMP 7

Publius Aelius Nepos was a Mithraic devotee active in the province of Pannonia Superior during the 2nd century AD. He is known solely from an inscription carved above the monumental rock-cut tauroctony at the Mithraeum of Rožanec, where he appears together with Proculus and Firminus as a dedicant to Mithras Invictus. The inscription records that the dedication was made pro salute sua suorumque, for their own well-being and that of their families.

A fragmentary inscription (TNMM 1922) from the Mithraeum of Sarmizegetusa in neighbouring Dacia records an Aelius Nepos who fulfilled a vow to Mithras, although it cannot be established whether this individual was the same person.
